A frangipani tree is more commonly known as a plumeria tree. Plumeria flowers, which bloom in red, pink, white and yellow, are used in Hawaiian lei necklaces. The blossoms produce an essential oil that adds fragrance to some lotions and perfumes.

Frangipani trees grow up to 25 feet tall with branches spread into a domed shape. This tropical tree performs best in USDA Hardiness Zone 10, although gardeners in parts of Zone 9 may be able to grow the tree if proper wind and cold protection is provided. Gardeners in colder climates must plant the trees in pots and bring the containers inside for the winter.
