According to the Repair Clinic, a broken dryer may be fixed by repairing the thermal fuse, start switch, door switch or drive motor. If these parts do not function, a person should test them with an ohmmeter or continuity checker; these tools determine whether electricity flows through an electrical component of a machine.Continue Reading
The thermal fuse is located on the back of the dryer in the blower housing and shuts off power to the dryer if the dryer overheats. Dryers overheat when the dryer vent is clogged with lint. If there is no lint blockage, the fuse has blown. The start switch is broken if the dryer does not make noise when the switch is triggered. The door switch activates when the dryer door is closed, and it makes a clicking sound when it works properly.
These three dryer components should be replaced if they do not function. The drive motor turns the exhaust wheel and propels the drum in the motor. The motor may need to be replaced if the dryer only works while the start switch is activated. The belt should be removed to ensure that there is no object binding the drum in the motor before replacing the motor.Learn more about Washers & Dryers
