Award-winning pools may include unusual shapes, water features, infinity edges and hot tubs. Many builders consider the landscaping as important as the actual pool, and surround the pool with attractive stonework, mosaics and even water slides and bridges. Global Aquatekture Visionary Awards (GAVA) and the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals (APSP) are two organizations that grant awards to pool builders.
Award-winning pools go beyond the scope of ordinary backyard pools with the clever use of high-quality materials and innovative water features. The styling, however, is often inspired by nature or exotic destinations. Mediterranean-themed pools and adjoining patios are popular winners, as are pools that attempt to create a more natural environment with winding waterways and stone-rapid waterfalls.
The GAVA awards recognize the conceptualization and application of unusual ideas in water-themed environments. The scope extends beyond designers of lap pools and swimming pools to meet entries in categories such as natural-setting pools and spas. Builders can apply in one of three divisions, residential, commercial or non-profit.
The APSP awards are given to APSP members on a yearly basis for "the most creative and beautiful works in the industry." Applying to competitions such as these gives pool builders a greater ability to market themselves and secure funds through corporate sponsorship.
