Several models of Quasar window air conditioners were certified as Energy Star-compliant appliances at the time they were manufactured. However, older Quasar models may no longer qualify as energy-efficient under newer Energy Star standards as of 2015.
The Quasar brand was largely discontinued in North America by parent company Matsushita in 2004. While their products were considered energy-efficient when manufactured, newer air conditioners have exceeded their efficiency. For example, an Energy Star-rated Quasar air conditioner with a cooling capacity of 5,250 BTU, or British thermal units, has an energy efficiency rating of 9.7, compared to a similar 2015 air conditioner's rating of 11.2.
