White vinegar mixed with hot water, white vinegar mixed with water and rubbing alcohol, or dishwashing liquid mixed with hot water are some effective homemade window cleaning solutions. Using homemade cleaning solution is less expensive than store-bought cleaners, and homemade cleaners are non-toxic.
White vinegar has natural antibacterial properties and cuts through dirt on windows without leaving streaks. Make the solution by mixing equal parts white vinegar and hot water. Pour the solution into a spray bottle. Spray the window, and wipe with a paper towel or cloth until dry.
Make another homemade cleaning solution by mixing 1 cup of water, 1 cup of rubbing alcohol and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. The rubbing alcohol helps to make the windows shiny and streak-free.
An alternative is mixing a few drops of dishwashing liquid with hot water. If streaking occurs, add more water to the solution.
