Effective deer repellents include a contact repellent made of 20 percent eggs and 80 percent water and natural commercial sprays such as Bobbex and Hinder. Other deer management strategies include blocking off plants with netting, tubing and fences and planting species that deer like to eat closer to the house.
Eggs give off a foul smell, which helps keep deer at bay. Gardeners can increase the effectiveness of the spray by adding some hot pepper sauce to the mixture. For best results, they should spray the mixture directly on plant foliage and reapply it on a regular basis.
Natural sprays like Bobbex contain ingredients such as hot peppers, eggs, dried blood, fish meal and natural oils. These give off unpleasant smells, which helps keep deer away from the plants.
