Bob Vila recommends sweeping or vacuuming the dust and particles off of the floor and mopping it with soap and water. Wipe up any spills immediately to avoid staining and avoid using mop and shine products because they dull the finish and color of the floor. More intensive cleaning and stain removal can be accomplished by using standard household products.
Mopping the floor with apple cider vinegar is one of the best ways to clean vinyl flooring. The acidity in the vinegar cuts through dirt and grime without leaving soap or wax residue. Use white vinegar if you need to disinfect the floor. The mixture of either vinegar is one cup for each one gallon of hot water.
Add a drop of liquid dish detergent to the vinegar before mopping if the floor is especially dirty, and then mop it again with just vinegar and water. Adding a few drops of baby oil to the vinegar and water mixture adds shine to the floor.
Remove food stains such as tomato sauce, ketchup, grape juice and mustard by making a paste out of baking soda and water and gently rubbing each stain until it disappears. Mop afterwards to remove all traces of the baking soda.
