As of January 2015, Duke Energy offers a $200 rebate for the installation of qualifying high-efficiency HVAC systems. Duke Energy makes the rebate available to its electrical service customers who live in single-family houses, duplexes, townhouses, condos and mobile homes.
To qualify for the rebate, heat pumps are required to have 14 SEER or higher, an HSPF rating of 8.2 or above and an ECM fan on the indoor unit.
SEER and HSPF are energy efficiency ratings. "ECM" stands for electronically commutative motor, which is more energy efficient. Central air conditioning units must be rated 14 SEER or higher, and geothermal heat pumps must be rated 10.5 SEER or above. Both are also required to have an ECM fan on the indoor unit.
