With up to a 30 percent decrease in energy loss compared to standard ducted systems, ductless heat pumps are worth the extra cost, explains the Department of Energy. Rebates may even be available in some areas to further offset the initial cost.
Benefits of going ductless include ease of installation and flexibility for heating individual rooms. Zoning is easier with ductless heat pumps, too. Homeowners with ductless systems also tend to like that the compressor can be hidden in an inconspicuous spot, as it is possible to position such systems high off of the floor, where they may be operated by remote control.
