This gas is kept in pressurized tanks and must be transported by special trucks and kept in airtight containers to prevent leakage, a problem that kerosene does not have. However, propane releases a great deal less pollution when it is burned because it breaks down only into carbon dioxide and water when burned. In low-oxygen environments, propane decomposes into more harmful carbon monoxide when burned, since the burning propane cannot grab enough oxygen atoms from the air.
