The direction of an axial fan?s airflow is linear, with the air passing straight through. Many have an orifice that helps move the air at a higher velocity and aim it in the desired direction rather than off the sides of the blades.

Axial fans are used in a wide variety of applications, from small electronics to giant wind tunnels. Centrifugal fans are generally used for jobs that require lower flow rates at higher resistance levels.
