To design a custom wet bar, begin by measuring the area where it is to be built. Create a simple blue print for the wet bar to scale on graph paper.
Plan on making the wet bar about 42 inches high and between 8 and 12 inches wide on each side of the bar if you are adding bar stools. Designate at least 2 feet of space between the bar counter and the wall. If desired, mark extra space on the plans for cabinets on the wall behind the bar. Make a plan for running electricity to the lights and appliances used at the bar, such as a fridge, blender or juicer. Use pendant lights or track lighting over the bar to provide enough light.
Consider what kind of storage is needed for the bar to store such items as bottles, glasses, utensils, cocktail shakers and food. Add cabinets and a drink fridge under the counter or on the wall behind the counter. Include plans for plumbing if you want a sink or an ice maker. Pick the type of materials used for the bar top, cabinets, flooring, sink and bar stools. If a sink is included, choose a faucet that best suits the space.
