To decorate a wine glass with paint, place a pattern inside the glass, and use a paint brush to follow the outline. While there are many ways to decorate a wine glass, painting is an easy and inexpensive way to create a custom piece.
- Clean the glass
Wash the glass with warm water and soap, and rinse thoroughly. Allow the glass to air dry for at least 15 minutes.
- Prepare a pattern
Draw or print a pattern for the painting. Choose simple, open shapes, such as cherries or polka dots. Choose a pattern size that allows you to repeat the pattern two or three times around the glass. Place the pattern inside the glass with the printed side facing outward.
- Paint the glass
Use water-based paint that is formulated for glass work, and squeeze small amounts of paint onto a foam plate. Use paint brushes and foam daubers to paint the outline and interior of the pattern. Dip the end of the brush into the paint and use it to add small dots around the glass.
- Cure the painted glass
Place the completed glass on a cookie sheet, and put the sheet inside the oven before turning it on. Set the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and bake the glass for 30 minutes. Turn off the oven, and leave the glass inside to cool for several hours or overnight. The slow heating and cooling process prevents breakage. Once the glass is cool, do not use it for 72 hours.
