As of 2015, 12 Energy Star-compliant air conditioners are available on the Danby website, ranging from the small DAC060EB2GDB window air conditioner to the larger DAC250EB1. Although Danby carries portable air conditioners along with its selection of window air conditioners, only the window models are Energy Star compliant.
The Danby Energy Star-compliant air conditioners range in size from the 5,000 BTU DAC060EB2GDB to the 25,000 BTU DAC250EB1. The wide range of available window models provides ample heating and air conditioning for areas between 150 square feet and 1,500 square feet. Most models come with an energy-saver switch that controls the unit's fan to provide efficient air flow whether the unit's compressor is in operation or not. They also tend to come with high energy efficiency ratings ranging from 9 to 11.
Energy Star compliance generally means that the air conditioner is more energy efficient than comparable non-compliant brands. On average, an Energy Star air conditioner uses about 15 percent less energy than other models, saving approximately $90 over the lifespan of the unit. Energy Star has been providing its seal to room air conditioners since October of 1996, and can be recognized by the blue Energy Star label placed on a compliant unit.
