Propane is considered a cheaper and more efficient option than electric heat based on the measurement of the heating value of a fuel called the British thermal unit. The national fuel prices provided by the U.S. Department of Energy reveal that propane costs around half the price of electricity.Continue Reading
Water heaters run by propane can save owners up to 42 percent in operating costs compared to electric heaters, according to Petro. They are also capable of recovering water more quickly.
Propane also produces a warmer environment considering that a propane gas furnace can heat the air from around 130 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Propane gas furnaces are more durable as they can last around 5 to 10 years longer than electric heat pumps, and they usually cost less to repair. Propane fireplaces cost around 30 percent to 60 percent less to operate than fireplaces that burn wood. They also produce less emissions than wood-burning fireplaces.
In terms of reliability, propane is safe to store in a tank, whereas electricity is prone to disruption of power supply. The gas is considered inherently safe as it does not ignite when mixed with air if the ignition source is below 940 degrees Fahrenheit. Propane is also nontoxic and environmental friendly.Learn more about Heating & Cooling
