Corn meal gluten purchased from Lowe's is used to feed lawns and prevent the growth of weeds such as dandelions and crabgrass. This natural product is not harmful to children and pets, so they do not need to be kept off the lawn after application.
Corn meal gluten encourages green growth and does not cause burn like some fertilizers. Each treatment lasts about two months. The product is not to be used when seeding the lawn, and seeding is postponed for eight weeks after application. Not all types of grass respond well to corn meal gluten. Fescue and ryegrass do, but bahia, bermuda, centipede, St. Augustine, zoysia and bluegrass varieties do not.
