A convection heater warms an area by blowing air across heating elements inside the appliance. The air absorbs heat from the heating elements before the air is circulated throughout the room. This type of heater typically uses an internal fan to blow heated air across the element inside the heater.
Convection heaters are available in different shapes, sizes and price ranges. This type of heater may have a steam coil, an electrical heating element or a hot water coil. The most common convection heater is an oil-filled heater that resembles a traditional radiator. Ceramic heaters are another type of convection heater that use ceramic disks or plates inside the appliance to retain heat. These heaters blow air across the plates or disks to warm the room.
