Cone washers, also called spring washers or spherical spring washers, have a high load capacity because the ratio between the height and thickness of the washer is small. The washers can fit in tight spaces where mobility is limited. They also add strength and flexibility to bearings or joints.
Cone washers are usually made from high carbon steel, stainless steel, phosphor bronze or beryllium copper. These washers get their name from the conical shape created by the small inner hole and the wide, tilted lip. If the washer is set on a flat surface with the large end down and pressed, it springs right back into shape.
