Common styles of wooden fences include privacy fences, picket fences and Wyngate fences. Privacy fences feature posts and rails that have tall pickets attached to them to form solid fences. A picket fence is a simple boundary marker and may be painted or left as natural wood.
A Wyngate fence offers some privacy but is not a solid barrier. The fence features pickets that have gaps between them to provide some visual access.
Picket fences are attractive to look at but can also provide security for children and pets. Some fences are meant to be purely decorative as opposed to providing security. Decorative fences may require more maintenance depending on the type of pain or finish that is applied, as well as on the level of detail.
