Freezing cold can kill bed bugs. Killing bed bugs with freezing cold temperatures is not a reliable method though, as most freezers are not cold enough to effectively kill the bed bugs. The bed bug must be held at freezing cold temperatures for a prolonged period of time.
There are methods that can help with a bed bug infestation such as heat, insecticide, washing, clutter removal and vacuuming. Bed bugs die when temperatures in their bodies reach 113 degrees Fahrenheit, so steaming is an effective method for killing them. Removing clutter leaves the bed bugs with fewer places to hide. Cover mattresses and pillows with specialized bug encasements for a year, and wash the bedding regularly to reduce bed bug infestation. Regular vacuuming helps reduce infestation.
