Of the various types of coffee filters, paper filters trap the most sediment. They are capable of removing oily substances, also referred to as diterpenes, that may elevate blood cholesterol levels. Paper filters need to be switched out for every batch of coffee.
Cloth coffee filters have slightly larger pores than paper filters, so they may leave tiny particles in the coffee. They enable bold coffee flavor, and typically last from three to six months.
Permanent coffee filters generally last for years and result in strong coffee flavor. This type is the most eco-friendly coffee filter option.
