To clean walls, put drop cloths on the floor, vacuum the walls, wash them with a foam rubber sponge, and treat lingering stains with hairspray. This 45-minute process requires rubber gloves, foam rubber sponges, drop cloths, a vacuum with brush attachment, two buckets, a towel, water and mild liquid soap.
- Protect the floor
Cover the floor and any nearby furniture with protective drop cloths.
- Vacuum the wall
Mount a brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner, and vacuum the wall. Pay special attention to the corners, molding and baseboards.
- Mix the cleaning solution
Fill two clean buckets with warm water, and add a squirt of mild liquid soap to one of them.
- Wipe the wall with the sponge
Dip a foam rubber sponge into the water bucket, squeeze it out, dip it into the soapy water, and squeeze it again. Rub the sponge over the wall, stopping frequently to rinse it and pick up more soapy water.
- Apply hairspray to stubborn stains
Wipe the wall with a towel, and check it for stains. If you find one, spray the stain with hairspray, wait 30 seconds, and wipe the spot with a clean, damp foam rubber sponge. Repeat if necessary.
- Dry the wall
If the wall has a matte paint finish, let it air dry. Otherwise, dry it with a towel.
