To remove black mold, prepare the area by sealing vents and doorways with plastic sheeting and duct tape, open windows to ventilate the area, and wash all contaminated surfaces with detergent and water. Always wear safety gear such as gloves and safety glasses to prevent health risks posed by black mold. Apply a borate solution to the affected areas after washing with detergent.
Before removing the mold, use plastic sheeting and duct tape to seal the vents and doorways in the room, and open windows to allow fresh air into the room. Use a vacuum with a HEPA filter to remove dust and debris in the area.
After ensuring the room is properly vented, put on safety gear and begin washing the areas affected by the mold with detergent and water. Use a stiff scrub brush on hard surfaces to remove the mold. Rinse the area thoroughly, and allow it to dry after washing. Apply a borate-based detergent solution after washing the area to prevent the growth of mold in the room, and dispose of all protective clothing, plastic sheeting and other cleaning equipment in a heavy duty garbage bag to prevent spreading mold spores in the home. Do not rinse the area after applying the borate solution.
