To clean spilled olive oil from carpet:
Immediately blot up the excess olive oil with a paper towel. Avoid rubbing the oil into the carpet.
Apply baking soda over the affected area, and allow it to dry for 10 to 15 minutes. Cornstarch or another absorbent can be used in place of the baking soda.
After the baking soda has dried, thoroughly vacuum the area.
Use a sponge to apply a dry-cleaning solvent or a homemade mixture of five parts warm water with one-part non-bleach laundry detergent.
Use a clean cloth to blot up the mixture.
Use a sponge to blot cold water over the area to rinse out the mixture.
The process to clean olive oil from upholstery is similar to the carpet-cleaning process:
Immediately blot up the excess oil.
Apply baking soda to the area and allow it to dry for 10 to 15 minutes.
Vacuum up the dried baking soda.
Use a sponge to blot a dry-cleaning solvent over the area.
Blot on additional solvent until the stain is removed.
