Clean sink mats by scrubbing them with dishwashing detergent and a thick bristled brush. After the initial scrubbing, apply baking soda and leave it on for up to 10 minutes to remove stains and freshen the mats. Bleach and water can also be used to remove stains and freshen the mats.
Sink mats are generally made of rubber and collect food debris and stains. To clean a sink mat, first rinse off any food particles that are lodged in the holes of the mat. When food remnants have been rinsed away, use a thick bristled scrubbing brush and dishwashing detergent to clean any film or residue that is on the surface of the mat.
Once the mat has been cleaned with dishwashing detergent, sprinkle on baking soda, mix with water and create a paste. Use the thick bristled brush to rub it into the mat. Let the paste sit on the mat for up to 10 minutes. Baking soda will remove surface stains and odors. After 10 minutes, rinse the mat so that no baking soda remains. If, after this process, the sink mat is not clean enough, soak it in a sink filled with water with 1/4 cup bleach.
