Clean grout with a scrub brush and mildew remover or solution of bleach and water, then seal with a commercial grout sealer. Some sealers also stain grout a new color while they seal to give the tile a fresh look.
- Gather materials
- Clean the grout
- Apply the sealer
For this project, pick up a solution of 1:1 of bleach and water or mildew cleaner, narrow scrub brush or toothbrush, mop, grout sealer and sealer application bottle. The application bottles have a narrow roller that is just the width of the grout for exact distribution of the sealer.
Dip the scrubbing brush in the mildew cleaner or the bleach and water solution. Scrub all of the grout in the tiled surface. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes. Mop up or wipe down with clean water. Wait until the grout is completely dry before moving on to the next step.
Pour some of the grout sealer into the application bottle. Select a roller that is small enough to fit in the grout line. Turn it over and roll the roller along the grout. As it moves, the sponge gets wet and applies sealer to the grout. Wait for the sealer to dry before using the surface regularly.
