Clean the inside of a microwave oven by boiling 1 cup of water containing slices from one lemon. Allow the solution to cool, wipe with a clean sponge, then clean the glass using a solution of equal parts of vinegar and water.
- Prepare the cleaning solution
Slice a lemon, and place the slices in a 4-cup microwave-safe bowl. Add 1 cup of water.
- Heat the lemon water
Place the bowl in the microwave, and heat it until it boils. Leave the door closed, and allow the steam to loosen any dried on particles from the oven walls and door. The acetic acid from the lemon juice helps to sanitize the oven and leaves it smelling fresh.
- Wipe the interior clean
Use a hot pad or gloves to remove the bowl from inside the oven. Use caution to avoid potential burns from the contents of the bowl. Use a damp sponge to wipe away the loosened material from the walls of the microwave. Scrub any stuck-on material to remove it.
- Clean the door glass
Mix equal amounts of water and white vinegar. Use this solution to clean the glass in the door of the microwave. The vinegar helps to dissolve any grease buildup on the glass.
