Add a few spoonfuls of coarse salt to the pan, and spread it out to cover the bottom of the skillet. Pour an equal amount of oil over the salt.
Using a paper towel, scrub the skillet using circular motions. If necessary, use a metal spatula or steel wool to loosen any stuck-on debris.
Wipe away the debris and excess oil. If oil builds up on the surface of the skillet, it may become rancid.
