A GE Spacemaker is cleaned by emptying the carafe, filling the water chamber with a cleaning solution and running a brew cycle. Cleaning the coffee maker regularly helps to brew better tasting coffee.
Empty and rinse both the carafe and coffee filter to remove any coffee grounds. Use the carafe to measure equal parts water and vinegar, and pour the solution into the water chamber. Start a brew cycle, but then stop it midway through the cycle. Turn the appliance off and unplug it, then leave it to sit for an hour.
After an hour, turn it back on and leave it to complete the brew cycle. Empty out the water and vinegar solution and replace it with clean, fresh water. Run another brew cycle and pour the water out. Repeat this process with clean water two more times. Leave the coffee maker to cool slightly in between brews.
Wash the carafe and filter basket in warm, soapy water, then rinse them. Wipe down the exterior of the coffee maker thoroughly, paying special attention to stains. Then reassemble the machine and use it as usual. Coffee makers should be cleaned in this way at least once a month for better tasting coffee.
