Effectively cleaning a garage floor can be done with a pressure washer or floor buffer that uses a stiff nylon brush attachment, a concrete de-greaser, vinegar and lemons, Tide laundry detergent or TSP. These products will remove a variety of garage stains such as grease, rust and dirt.
When cleaning a garage floor for painting or general maintenance, it is important to remove all floor stains. Concrete is porous and contains many holes, which can fill with dirt. The first step is stripping all grease stains. This can be done with a concrete de-greaser, which can be purchased from a local hardware store. After grease stains are removed, you may use lemon and vinegar, Tide laundry detergent or TSP to remove any rust stains that are on the floor. When rust and grease stains have been eliminated, a pressure washer can be used to clean the porous holes of the concrete. If you do not have access to a pressure washer, a floor buffer with a stiff nylon brush will also do the job effectively. Pressure washers and floor buffers are available for rent at many hardware stores. Once stains and dirt are removed from the floor, it will be safe for painting if you should choose to do so.
