Put on rubber gloves and old clothing before starting the cleaning process.
Look for the clips or screws that hold the glass in place. Remove the screws or lift the clips to release the glass. Carefully remove the glass, and take it to a safe location for cleaning.
Fireplace glass cleaners have a paste-like consistency. Apply the cleaner to the glass using paper towels. Allow the cleaning paste to sit in place for the amount of time the manufacturer recommends.
Use more paper towels, and work in a circular motion to wipe away the soot and cleaner. Use a razor scraper to scrape away any baked-on soot that the cleaner does not remove.
Once the glass is clean, return it to the fireplace door. Reverse the removal process to ensure you secure the glass in place.
