Clean the pump filter on a Maytag washing machine by removing the front panel, twisting the filter to open it, removing any debris from the unit and reinstalling it. Keep the machine draining correctly by cleaning the filter regularly.

  1. Disconnect the power

Before working on any electrical appliance make sure it is disconnected from the outlet to prevent the potential for electrical shock. Do not reconnect the power until after replacing the front panel.

  2. Remove the front panel

Lift the front of the machine and slide wooden blocks under the front legs for easier access to panel screws. Use an appropriate screwdriver to remove the screws from the bottom of the panel. Pull out from the bottom to remove the panel.

  3. Remove the filter

Locate the filter assembly. Turn the knob on the front of the assembly counterclockwise and pull it out for cleaning.

  4. Clean the unit

Remove and discard any accumulated lint and debris.

  5. Reassemble the unit

Replace the filter into its housing and turn clockwise to lock it in place. Replace the panel, making sure it catches in the top brackets. Insert the bottom screws and tighten them with the screwdriver. Remove the wooden blocks and lower the machine to the floor. Insert the plug into the power outlet.
