A CPAP mask should be washed each day with a mild, unscented soap and warm water. Alternatively, CPAP mask cleansing wipes are sold over the counter. Rinse the mask with water following cleaning, and allow it to air dry.
Once each week, soak the CPAP mask in 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water and then rinse with distilled water. To keep the mask lasting longer, it is important to wash your face each night before putting the mask on and not use any moisturizer. Oils from the face and moisturizers may cause the silicone in the mask to break down faster.
With proper care, a CPAP mask usually lasts for a few months, but it should be replaced every three to six months. It is best to replace the cushions on the mask once or twice a month.
Wash the chinstraps and headgear by hand with warm, soapy water as needed. Rinse these well and air dry. Putting the chinstraps or headgear in the washer or dryer may damage them. Clean the CPAP tubing once a week by placing it in a sink full of warm, soapy water and then rinsing it thoroughly. Air dry the tube or place it in direct sunlight to dry.
