How Do You Clean a Brick Patio?

To clean a brick patio, remove the weeds and dirt, clean off grease and oil stains, and wash away bird droppings with a liquid detergent. Lastly, rinse the brick with clean water and let dry.

  1. Clear the weeds and dirt

Uproot the weeds by hand, or spray them with a weed killer. Read the instructions on the weed killer before applying. Once the weeds are dead, flush away the dead weeds and killer residue with water, and scrub away dirt with a bristle push broom, then wash away the dirt with a garden hose.

  2. Remove grease and oil stains

Mix a quart of hot water and 4 ounces of bar laundry soap, let the mixture cool, and add powdered pumice and ammonia. Using a brush, apply this solution to the stains, and allow the cleanser to set for one hour. Scrub away stains with a bristle brush and rinse with water.

  3. Wash away bird droppings, and rinse the brick

Using a putty knife, scrape off bird droppings and flush the brick with water. Mix liquid detergent with hot water, wet a rag with the solution, put the wet rag over the droppings, and let the rag sit for one hour. Rub away the droppings with a bristle brush, and flush the patio with a garden hose.
