To clean brass hinges, form a paste of baking soda and white vinegar, apply it directly to the hinges, and rub it in thoroughly for a minute or two. Rinse the hinges with water, and dry them with a soft clean cloth.
- Prepare the cleaning mixture
Take a small bowl and pour baking soda and white vinegar in it. Mix the two ingredients to form a paste.
- Apply the paste to the brass hinge
Use your fingers or a tool to apply the paste to the brass hinge. If using your fingers, wear gloves, if necessary. If the paste is applied using a toothbrush or another tool, make sure that the tool is not stiff or hard, or it might damage the brass object. Apply the paste, and rub it on the brass hinge for a minute or so.
- Rinse the brass hinge
Rinse the brass hinge thoroughly with clean water. Once all the paste is washed away, dry the brass hinge with a soft cleaning cloth. Make sure that the cleaning cloth is soft enough that it doesn't leave marks on the brass. If you are not satisfied with the results, repeat the process as many times as needed.
