A Chinese pistache tree is an ornamental tree with a broad, bowed canopy that sheds its leaves annually. It requires infrequent watering and is commonly used to provide shade in gardens and along streets. Although Chinese pistache is in the same family as pistachio trees, it does not yield nuts.
A mature Chinese pistache tree does well in dry, hot climates, but it can also withstand cold winters. Because it has roots that extend far down, Chinese pistache is a strong tree that tolerates windy weather. It also has a natural resistance to fire and pests. Chinese pistache can be planted alone or in groups.
