To change your door lock, remove the old lock and install a new one. Start by checking the brand of the existing lock on the latch or the key. If you buy the same brand, you may not need to make any adjustments.
Measure the lock from the latch of the door to the middle of the doorknob. Remove the old lock. Disassemble the lock sections by loosening the two interior screws. Remove the two screws that hold the latch at the edge of the door and withdraw the lock.
To install the new lock, put the lock into place, and insert the latch. Remove any uneven materials in the latch to make it fit perfectly. Put in place the new lockset, making sure the keyed section is on the outside. Holding the outer parts parallel to the floor, set up the inner set, sliding it onto the blade of the outer part of the lockset. Introduce the mounting screws, and tighten them. Ensure that the strike plate is in line with the new lock. In case it’s not, replace the strike plate. Finally, test the operation of the latch and the locking mechanism. Make sure you test with the door open.
