Full Answer

  1. Prepare the window surface

Using a cloth, wipe down the surfaces that will need to be caulked. This is important because loose particles and dirt can cause different types of sealing problems if they are present when the caulking takes place. Also, put down lines of tape to create a smooth edge where you will be caulking.

  2. Cut the caulking tube

Examine the window to be caulked. Different types of windows require different bead sizes. Using your scissors, cut the nozzle with either a large hole for larger beads, or a narrow hole for smaller beads.

  3. Apply the caulk

Squeeze the trigger of the caulking gun with even pressure to maintain a steady flow of caulk. Make sure that the nozzle follows any of the cracks or spaces that you want to fill inside of the window. After you have covered all of these cracks, immediately use your finger to smooth out the beads for a better aesthetic.
