Consumers seeking to receive cash in exchange for old appliances can check to see if their state is currently operating an appliance recycling program. The United States Department of Energy provides states with funds for administration of a state appliance rebate program that pays out cash to consumers.
States may operate an Energy Star program that gives consumers cash rebates of up to $250 when the consumer recycles an old appliance and purchases an energy-efficient appliance. States such as Wisconsin, Florida and Oregon have appliance recycling programs that pay cash in exchange for old appliances. In some states, consumers make arrangements to have their old appliance picked up for free and receive an immediate cash payment.
