Among the carpet brands that experts rate highly are Mohawk and Beaulieu America, according to About.com. Their carpets received high marks for being attractive, resilient, stain-resistant, soft to the touch, easy to care for and environmentally friendly.
Mohawk offers a line of broadloom carpet called SmartStrand, which is made from DuPont Sorona fiber. SmartStrand is valued for its wealth of styles, colors and softness. A variant on the carpet called SmartStrand Silk has an even softer and more luxurious feel. Besides its beauty and texture, SmartStrand is exceptionally tough and durable. It was tested in a rhinoceros enclosure for two weeks and bounced back to its initial appearance after it was steam-cleaned. It also resists staining from red wine, bleach and other substances that would ruin a carpet of poorer quality. Because of this, Mohawk offers warranties on this carpet that last between 15 and 25 years.
Beaulieu America's Bliss line of carpets are made of nylon. The newest entrance is the Indulgence carpet, which combines softness and beauty with such resilience and durability that the company offers lifetime soil- and fade-resistance warranties as well as 25-year durability, texture and manufacturer's defects warranties. These warranties are offered even though nylon is notoriously vulnerable to staining. However, the Indulgence carpeting is solution-dyed. This technique resists stains because the color thoroughly penetrates the carpet fibers.
