How Do You Care for Timbermill Log Siding?

Periodic washing of Timbermill log siding is the only care and maintenance required. Owners can wash the vinyl log siding with approved cleaners by hand or using a power washer. Some special treatment may be required for areas that start growing mold or mildew.

Timbermill recommends using a soft cloth or an ordinary soft bristled brush with a long handle on untextured surfaces. Use only a soft bristled brush on log siding with textures to avoid damaging the wood grain effect on the siding. Approved cleaning products must be used and the cleaning solution must be thoroughly rinsed off of the siding before it dries. Don't use undiluted chlorine bleach, organic solvents, furniture polish or cleaners, nail polish remover or grease removers, because they may damage the siding's finish.

If you use a power washer, always hold it at a 90-degree angle spraying directly on the siding. Never spray it up or sideways because it could allow water to penetrate the seams of the siding. Also do not use the sprayer around openings such as windows, electrical wiring, doors or plumbing for the same reason.

Use a cleaner such as Fantastik or Windex to address small areas of mold and mildew. Larger sections can be cleaned with a solution of 70 percent water and 30 percent vinegar.
