Care for a robellini palm tree by using well-drained soil, keeping the soil to the proper pH, watering the plant well and fertilizing the plant. You need soil, sand, fertilizer, a pH reader and water.
- Use well-drained soil
Use well-drained soil. If the soil is too dense and water is pooling around the trunk instead of draining, add sand to the soil. While adding sand, carefully work the sand into the soil and avoid damaging the roots of the plants.
- Keep the soil to the proper pH
Check the soil pH regularly. Robellini palms need acidic to slightly alkaline soils in order to grow properly. If the pH is off, add sulfate or lime to the soil.
- Water the plant well
Keep the plant well-watered until the soil is moist, not damp. Water the plant once the soil starts to feel dry. Avoid allowing the soil to become too dry, as tihs can strain the plant.
- Fertilize the plant
Fertilize the plant with a balanced fertilizer, especially if the plants start to yellow. This can be caused by a lack or potassium or magnesium. Add fertilizer three times a year, although younger trees need up to a monthly application of fertilizer.
