  1. Choose the right location

Make sure that your cucumbers are in a location that receives plenty of sunlight. Cucumbers are plants that require a lot of heat to grow properly. The location that you choose should also have soil that drains well. The soil should be wet, but not completely saturated with water.

  2. Water the soil regularly

Use your watering can or spray bottle to water the cucumbers regularly. Make sure that the soil is always moist. Soil that is too dry causes cucumbers to develop a bitter taste when they are fully grown.

  3. Thin the cucumbers down to healthy plants

Watch your cucumbers as they develop. If they are planted inn hills, count the leaves as they come in. Once all of the plants have two or three leaves, look for the healthiest plants. Trim down all but two of these plants on each hill to preserve resources. If they are planted in rows, thin the plants once they are between 3 or 4 inches tall, and keep them 1 to 2 feet apart.
