To remove car grease from clothing, pretreat the stain with a solvent-based stain remover, laundry detergent or degreaser. Let it sit for several minutes, then wash the clothing in the hottest water possible. Check the clothing to ensure the grease stains are gone before placing it in the dryer.
- Pretreat the stain
Cover the grease stains with a solvent-based stain remover. Rub the stain remover into the grease stain, and let it sit for five to 10 minutes to loosen the oil from the fabric. If you don't have stain remover, apply a heavy-duty laundry detergent or a fabric-safe degreaser.
- Wash the clothing
Wash the stained clothing with like colors using a heavy-duty laundry detergent and the hottest water appropriate for the fabric.
- Repeat if necessary
Inspect the clothing carefully after washing to make sure that the grease stains are removed. If the grease stains are still visible, repeat treating the stains with stain remover and washing the clothes until the stains are completely gone.
- Dry the clothing
Place the clothing in the dryer after ensuring that all the grease stains are gone. Drying the item with the grease stains still visible may cause the stains to set in permanently.
