The Wisconsin State Legislature maintains a publicly accessible online record of the residential building code, also known as the Uniform Dwelling Code, at Docs.legis.wisconsin.gov. In addition, PermitPath.com provides a breakdown of the Wisconsin code and includes a resource list of code books.
The Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code was adopted in order to harmonize building standards and is enforced state-wide by the Wisconsin Division of Safety and Buildings. The code covers the minimum required specifications for new one- and two-family homes, including regulations about fire safety, structural integrity and energy efficiency. The code may be updated according to recommendations by a citizens' Dwelling Code Council.
