Dish drainers are one of the dirtiest items in the kitchen, often collecting harmful mildew and bacteria, so they need cleaning often. To clean, separate the parts of your dish drainer, soak in a mixture of hot water and bleach, then use an old toothbrush and sponge to scrub any stubborn stains before rinsing with clean water.
- Separate the different parts of the dish drainer
Many racks come with several parts, such as the bottom drip tray to catch excess water and a holder for flatware such as knives, forks and spoons.
- Fill the sink with hot water and add bleach
The sink should be big enough, as well as full enough, to submerge the whole drainer. For each gallon of water, add one-fourth of a cup of bleach.
- Place all the parts of the dish rack in the full sink
Once the drainer is in the bleach water, soak for 20 minutes.
- Wipe off any extra mildew and slime
Using the sponge or rag, wipe off any extra mildew or slime. For smaller crevices, use an old toothbrush.
- Rinse and dry the rack
Once the drainer is completely clean, rinse it with clean water thoroughly and let it dry.
