To find used propane cylinders or tanks, customers can visit online sites that buy, sell or refurbish these items. Some companies that offer these services are Tank Solutions Inc., BLT Tanks and Repurposed Materials Inc.
Tank Solutions Inc. buys, sells and reconditions used American Society of Mechanical engineers (ASME)-certified propane tanks or cylinders that are of varying sizes, such as 420 cylinders, 500- and 1,000-gallon tanks. The reconditioning process for tanks includes valve replacement, testing for leak pressure and the inspection, removal and replacement of gauges. Customers can also have tanks painted a specific color. These reconditioned tanks also have a one-year warranty.
The Repurposed Materials Inc. website offers used propane tanks for sale in three different sizes, including 250-, 500- and 1,000-gallon tanks. They are available painted either in a white color or in a metal finish. However, these tanks are not appropriate for storing propane any longer, but may be repurposed for other uses, such as a feed bank, culvert pipe, BBQ grill or camp fire ring, as noted by Repurposed Materials Inc.
The BLT Tanks company sells used and rebuilt tanks of varying sizes. Although most tanks sold by this company are rebuilt, those that are newer and are still usable may be sold without being refurbished. Similarly, the company sells salvaged tanks that are not useful for propane storage but may be appropriate for other purposes.
