Free furniture and other items, such as appliances, can be found on Craigslist.org and Freecycle.org. Gifts from family, friends and neighbors can also be a source of free furniture.
Freecycle.org, the website of The Freecycle Network, is a way for people in communities to advertise items they want to give away, such as furniture or appliances, or list items they want. All items must be free, legal and appropriate for all ages. To access free listings and contact information, users join local groups by providing personal information and creating a username and password. Membership is free and managed by local group moderators.
Craigslist.org is a classifieds website. After selecting the appropriate city and state, users can search for free items by clicking on "free" under the "for sale" category. Craigslist ads generally have a picture of the free item, a map to the location and a complete description. Craigslist users do not have to join to access contact information.
Family, friends and neighbors can also be a source of free furniture. Family or friends purchasing new furniture may want to get rid of the old, and would appreciate having it taken off their hands. On the local bulk trash day, neighbors may place unwanted furniture on the curb that can easily be collected.
