As of March 2015, Sharper Image sells a 7-inch-tall space heater that draws only 200 watts. At Walmart, the Lasko 754200, which is approximately the same height but wider and deeper, draws 1,500 watts, giving it similar power to larger space heaters.
While small space heaters draw less energy, they also struggle to heat small rooms. Homeowners looking for personal heating that doesn't cost much may want to consider infrared heaters, which heat objects instead of the air in a room. Infrared heater can warm people efficiently, and they can also warm the area around people. An infrared heater pointed toward a couch, for example, can sometimes provide more efficient heating than small space heaters.
