Can Roaches Cause Sickness?

Roaches can make people sick, according to the World Health Organization. Cockroaches are more than just nuisance pests that ruin food and leave disgusting secretions behind. These insects feed on human feces and other waste, and they sometimes carry organisms that can make humans sick.

Cockroaches are believed to be disease-bearing carriers of cholera, dysentery, diarrhea, typhoid fever and even leprosy. To add insult to injury, cockroaches also carry the eggs of parasitic worms that can invade the human body and cause disease. Roaches and their droppings can cause allergic reactions, including dermatitis and respiratory distress. Roach infestations should be addressed in a timely fashion to avoid potential health issues.
